What Does Smite Do in Minecraft?

So, if you are, here you have questions about what the smite enchantment on Minecraft is. Well, we are pleased to say you came to the right place. If this is your first time here, welcome and for our returning readers, it’s a pleasure to have you back.

So without further ado, let’s get into what the smite enchantment is and what it does.

On Minecraft, “Smite” is an enchantment that lets you do more damage to “undead” enemies such as zombies and withers. The Enchantment can be given to weapons such as swords and Axes and will enable those weapons to have special abilities against the undead.

A list of enemies that are considered undead on Minecraft and are vulnerable to the smite enchantment include:

Chicken Jockeys

Drowned zombies

Husk zombies

Phantoms

Skeletons

Skeleton Horses

Skeleton Horsemen

Spider Jockeys

Stray skeletons

Withers

Wither Skeletons

Zoglins

Zombies

Zombie Horses

Zombie Villagers

Zombified Piglins

Smite can be added in different levels to weapons for use against the undead. Every added level of Smite gives weapons an additional 2.5 points of damage with every hit against one of the undead. These smite levels go as high as Smite V, which sees a weapon acquire an additional 12.5 damage with every swing on undead adversaries.

Smite will randomly appear in the user’s enchantment table, like any other enchantment. That means the best way to get the smite enchantment is to keep enchanting books until the option to use the enchantment is available.

When a user receives the option to use the smite enchantment, they can add it to a weapon by combining the Smite-enchanted book with the sword or ax on an anvil. It should be noted that in some versions of Minecraft, notably the Java edition, axes can only be enchanted with an enchanted book. However, players of the Bedrock edition of the game can use an enchanting table to add the smite enchantment to both swords and axes.

The Smite enchantment does not affect weapons in any other way and provides no benefit against non-undead enemies. This has led most players to view the enchantment as a worse version of the sharpness enchantment.

The sharpness enchantment is quite similar to the smite enchantment, but it provides extra melee damage against every enemy the player faces with their sword or ax. Users sadly cannot use both enchantments on the same weapon and will have to settle for one or the other.
