How to Make A Piston in Minecraft

This Minecraft tutorial explains How to Make A Piston in Minecraft with detailed screenshots and step-by-step instructed process.

Playing Minecraft is one of the most fun experiences ever as it is not a static game at all, but on the contrary very dynamic and lively. One of the things that most strike the player is given by the possibility of creating various kinds of machinery with which to try their hand at assembling a series of gears, and levers that together in a certain way work perfectly.

One of the most important of these gears is definitely the piston! The piston is an indispensable tool as through it you can create magnificent things such as sliding doors, water and wind mill wheels, secret doors, automatic farms, flying machines and much more.

In this guide I will show you how to get a piston in a few simple steps. The materials to be used are very few and simple to find as well as the procedure which is really elementary. You will soon learn to create incredible mechanisms through the pistons and you will be able to build a world full of surprises, fascinating, impregnable, with which you will come to master the territory and conquer new levels! Well then what are we waiting for? Let’s get to work right away and start seeing how wonderful pistons are made …

Required Materials to create a Piston:

Image Name Quantity
Iron Ingot 1
Redstone Dust 1
Cobblestone 4
Wood Planks (Any colour) 3

Creating a Piston is very simple: you can choose to get it from nature in survival mode, so follow the first option. If you are in creative mode, go directly to the second option.

OPTION ONE: GET A PISTON FROM NATURE  IN SURVIVAL MODE

  1. Open the workbench grid

First, lay a workbench along the ground and right-click on it. A crafting grid similar to the one you see in the photo will open for you:

All you have to do is place the different materials inside the grid squares in the right order.

  1. Place the materials in the fabrication grid

Now you have to insert the necessary materials in the right order that I indicate: first place the Iron Ingot in the central square of the manufacturing grid; now insert the redstone dust in the small square immediately below the Iron Ingot; then insert the three blocks of wood planks into the three squares at the top of the grid horizontally; finally place the cobblestone blocks in the left and right empty squares! Follow this figure exactly:

In this way you will see a Piston appear in the small square on the right! Isn’t it fantastic?

  1. Collect the item

Now you just have to click on the Piston and drag it to your inventory so you can use it when you need it. Really easy!

OPTION TWO: FIND A PISTON IN CREATIVE MODE

You can easily find a Piston, if you are in creative mode, in the “Redstone” section
